Walking It Off

Walk alone when carrying burdens
No one else can carry
And no one else can remove.

Full Spring

Pastel skies are backdrop
To the young foliage
Of these deciduous
And the everpresent spruce.

Morning Song

Hear the good morning trill
Of the song sparrow
And the caw caw caw of the crow.
Hear the sullen moan of commuter traffic
And the robin's calling
Cheerily cheer up
Cheerily cheer up.

Changes

No matter good or bad
Or near or far
We expect this to be the way it is
For all time.
No matter how much we wish it otherwise
And plan to make it different
Deep down we anticipate the same
As this for tomorrow and thereafter.
Even when we visit
We expect that this will remain as it is
For our inevitable return
Even when we don't
And even though it can't
We innately believe in permanence.
Change is always a shock
To the order we imagine
Which makes us grieve.

Conference of American Nuclear Society at resort.
Young suits from all over
With a certain glow about them.
