Inward

Looking outward is difficult
When life draws you inward.
It takes deliberate effort sometimes
To notice the angle of the sun
To hear birdsong or dog barks
To smell bacon frying or freshly exposed wet earth

Or the see-right-through-you gaze of the self-absorbed
To note the phase of the moon or the direction of the breeze.

Weather Report 2.01.13

February opens crystal clear
With star-filled heavens
And a gibbous moon
Hanging over Baldy.
Snow bikers with excessive tires
Pierce the silence
Breaking the ice-crusted trail
While a pre-dawn light
Outlines the features of Dollar.
This is what comes
Of an early morning walk for coffee.
