Found a moment of silence
Away from traffic noise
Construction clammer
And people's voices
Even the birds are silent
And the wind is still
Nothing moving in the grasses
Only my breath after a climb
Disturbs the quiet
Tall stalks line the footpaths
Above the village that lies below
The faded remains of summer's
Flurry of yellow blossoms.
This year's growth stays low
As if watching and learning
How to spend themselves next summer
The faded and thorny remains
Of thistles crowd the autumn trails
Their blossoms long spent and seed dispersed
Life has retreated into their deep roots to wait for spring.
Heavy skies with a light drizzle
That promises something heavier.
Mild, though, beneath this grey blanket that allows no sunbeeaks.
Leaves rustle in the breeze.
